Best Images of 2016 | Maui Photographer

I can’t believe it’s already 2017. But I feel like I say that every year. I can’t believe another 365 (or should I say 366) days have come and gone. This year marks a HUGE year for me both personally and professionally. I’m continuing to grow my sister business Engaged on Maui while simultaneously getting ready to welcome Baby Nelson in late May/early June.

It’s true that I’ll be ramping down my Angela Nelson Photography business as I get closer to my due date, but I’ll still be taking on sessions as they fit my schedule and don’t require too much physically!

Looking back on 2016, I can honestly say that I have the BEST clients there are. I know almost every photographer boasts the same claims. But honestly, I really, truly do.

Last year, I did over 125 sessions for ANP.

Holy smokes. That’s divided up between families, couples, and weddings. The fact that these folks chose me to be their 2016 Maui photographer to document the milestones in their lives gives me the warm and fuzzies like whoa.

I’ve photographed folks from nearly half the states in the US as well as people from India, Canada, China, Japan, and Australia. Choosing what photos to feature was seriously tough. I even asked Instagram to help me! This is what they came up with:

Thanks, IG. While this was a good starting point, it doesn’t include nearly all of my favorites!

So here we go! My favorite images of 2016!

Thea and Jeramy – These two sweethearts still had all the moves of newlyweds – 5 years later. Check out their blog post here

Elyse N – Sweet Elyse takes a moment to enjoy a morning at Baldwin Beach in North Maui

Baby Cover – Mom Sarah at sunset, pregnant with their sweet baby girl Leilani.

Newlyweds Karene and Matt take a moment after tying the knot at Napili Bay. Read about their day here

Sweet Maggie wears her haku so beautifully!

Honeymooners Lori and Andrew got an epic rainbow during their session on the North Shore!

Sara and Geoff took some risks so we could play with the awesome afternoon light in North Maui! Check out their romantic engagement session here

Sam and Max have a good time on their parents’ shoulders during their annual photo session!

Kayla and Joe take a moment to smooth after a rainstorm in South Maui. You can see more of their session here

Lydia and Tony celebrate 10 years of marriage in Northwest Maui. Check out that light!

Engaged couple Crystal and Brian decide to throw caution to the wind and jump in at the end of their session in Northwest Maui!

Newlyweds Amy and John snuggle under a bougainvillea bush in Makena, Maui

Katherine and Kevin take a moment to cuddle under some trees in South Maui

One of my favorite weddings to date! Emily and Will tied the knot out in the remote Kaupo area of Maui! See their off-the-beaten-path Maui wedding here

Sweethearts Fallon and Jason agreed to stay later so we could get some civil twlight shots with the Lahaina sunset. See more photos of their session here

This wedding was intimate, authentic, and at my favorite venue! Katie and Peter definitely know how to do this wedding thing!

They didn’t get married on Maui, but they wanted their wedding photos to have a tropical twist! Cynthia and Quincey had no qualms about getting into the ocean!

Cutie Ellie runs away from the surf at golden hour in South Maui. This girl had personality coming out of her ears!

It was a last minute decision to take this shot, but I’m so glad I did. Hortencia and Conrad were treated to one of the best sunsets I saw in 2016. Check out their wedding here

They had family fly in from all over the country for their wedding at Sugarman’s Estate (one of the last weddings held there)! There was so much love between Kacie and John!

That light that night was EPIC. Nellie and Nelson walk after son Kellan at DT Fleming Beach Park in Kapalua.

Every wedding I try something new. This is one of my favorites EVER. Kelsey and Kory were super patient with me while I set it up! Check out their wedding, chuck full of details, here

Kim and Mike – A overcast morning in South Maui ended up being on of my favorite morning couples’ session ever!

It takes a combination of so many things to create an awesome image: the perfect lighting conditions, the willingness of my subjects, a bit of patience, and a whole lot of trust!

I would love to hear what your favorite image was!
