Intimate Wedding at Merriman’s Kapalua | Amy + Rob
Intimate Wedding at Merriman’s Kapalua
Amy and Rob had a lovely, intimate wedding at Merriman’s Kapalua. I love this venue because it’s out on a point, you have this amazing view of Lana’i and Molokai, and during whale season you can see whales out there. While we didn’t see any whales that day, we definitely saw lots of turtles during their cocktail hour and before their wedding.
I actually met Gail, Amy’s mother, through paddling. Years ago, I had donated a silent auction item of a small photo session, and Gail was the winner. I mistakenly hadn’t specified how big the photo session could be, and she asked me if she could have all nineteen of her family members come! And I’m just a sucker for big families, so I said yes. But it was awesome because they were such an awesome group of people. I had enjoyed getting to know her family during the shoot, we had a beautiful sunset, and they were just all great humans.
Now, six years later, Amy contacted me saying that she was Gail’s daughter and telling me she was ready to tie the knot out here on Maui and wanted me to be her photographer. I was so happy that I got to see the whole family again and got to document Amy and Rob’s big day!
Amy and Rob are “no-frills” kind of people. They really enjoy the simple stuff in life. They said to me that while romantic photos were important, they really wanted to make sure they got lots of photos of their friends and family. Because not only were they celebrating their wedding, they were also celebrating the relationships they had with these people.
They had a really nice ceremony. And Amy accidentally forgot Rob’s ring! Her dad had to run and get it which broke the tension really nicely. Everyone was laughing about it. But her dad came back with the ring and they were good to go!
We enjoyed cocktail hour down on the lower lawn after the ceremony. And for sunset we slipped away down to the rocks. It was really cloudy that evening, but you just can’t go wrong with Merriman’s as a venue because it is just so beautiful.
They had the reception at the covered tent on Merriman’s deck. Amy and Rob let me pull them away to get some photos by Merriman’s really cool fire pit. Which were the perfect photos to end the evening.
Amy and Rob: thank you for choosing Angela Nelson Photography to capture your big day! I loved everything about your intimate wedding at Merriman’s Kapalua. Congratulations! Loved photographing you and your family for the second time!
