From the first moment I met Amy and Greg (and Greg saved my drone from a tree during their engagement session) – I knew they were a unicorn couple. And, of course, their Olowalu Plantation House Wedding was going to be one for the ages!

Fast forward one year, during peak whale season, Amy and Greg made it official at my favorite Maui wedding venue, the Olowalu Plantation House.

Their day was filled with sweet moments (the first look with Dad was one of my favorites), silly moments, lots of chickens, and the most epic dance party (and the first dance was incredible!!!). I’m currently designing their wedding album and I can’t get it to under 100 pages!! There were just too many amazing things happening at this wedding!

I want to add too – that I loved the weather for their wedding. It was very overcast, but never hot (which I loved!). It threatened to rain a few times, but the colors in the sky were so beautiful and unique. I love that this venue continues to surprise me year after year.

Ok ok – on to the good stuff! Instead of me droning on about everything, I’ll let Amy tell it from her perspective!

(one last thing – there’s one photo that I had some fun with in Photoshop – can you tell which? 🐓)

Planning her Olowalu Plantation House Wedding

Thoughts leading up to the wedding… holy sh*t is this happening?! Did I seriously get this lucky that I get to marry this man who makes me laugh every day, who has brought so much joy and adventure into my life, and who makes me feel so loved?! I couldn’t be more excited for the wedding day and to officially become Mrs. Shuff and I’m happy to share that Greg was equally as excited 🙂

Choosing the right Maui wedding venue

For Greg, he wanted a destination wedding where activities were endless! We chose Olowalu because we wanted to be outside, be next to the ocean with the chance of seeing whales, the gorgeous brick courtyard and a large tree, and it was private and removed from outsiders’ eyes!

Their Favorite Part of their Maui wedding day

We absolutley loved celebrating with everyone but the highlights for both of us were seeing each other for the first time when I walked down the aisle and our first dance! That dance… man, the energy our guests brought and the amount of fun we had performing… we can’t help but rewatch video of it daily!

What were your favorite details from your wedding day?

What were your favorite details and why? (dress, suits, flowers, etc) I loved how we really leaned into “Hawaiian smart”! Greg’s dress shirt had palm trees on it in different shades of blue that tied in with his suit and I based my bridesmaids’ dresses color on! I loved how my dress had this gorgeous floral lace that just seemed like it was meant for Olowalu! The simple white and green flowers and floating candles took the natural beauty of Olowalu and just seemed to highlight it! And of course, I can’t forget about our surfboard seating chart and guestbook… we’re not pros by any means but we definitely enjoy surfing every time we’re in Hawaii!

How did you choose your Olowalu Plantation House Wedding Photographer?

From the first time we saw your photos, we knew that you had an eye for capturing the real emotion and special moments of the day! We didn’t want photos void of emotion and we didn’t want to take photos that weren’t us and that were forced. And once we spoke with you, we knew we connected extremely well with you and would enjoy having you around for our big day! You made the decision SO EASY! And dare I say, I would even call you a friend now 🙂

Wedding advice for other couples planning a destination wedding

Choose the venue and vendors that resonate with you! It’s your day! Do what you want! Yes, you want your guests to enjoy it obviously, especially if you’re asking them to travel for a destination wedding, but this day is about how you want to celebrate your love! Do it your way and do it TOGETHER! We always discussed wedding stuff over cups of coffee or overscheduled pizza date nights…. it can help with some of the “wedding stress”.

A big thank you to our vendors…
