Stormy Kauai Engagement Photography
Hurricane Season
Hurricane season in Hawaii is always unpredictable. We have been lucky the last few years that storms have headed to the North or South of the islands. The week of Rubiya and Asad’s Kauai honeymoon was one of those weeks. Hurricane Hector was 200 miles south of Kauai at the time of their stormy Kauai engagement photography session! But even though we were dodging rainstorms, the sunset didn’t disappoint!
Kauai is my spirit island. It’s the place in Hawaii that feels most like home besides Maui. I love the vibe of the island and the rich greens that come with the copious amounts of rain Kauai receives. And I’ve always wanted to shoot on Kauai but never had the opportunity until now.
Rubiya and Asad
Rubiya and Asad’s wedding photographer, Ray Prop, reached out to me on the behalf of his clients to see my availability. Though it was a touch last minute, we were able to make it work! I did some location scouting before we met up and found some cool spots near Poipu.
We were going to head North to Hanalei but the rain prevented us from heading up that way. They wanted some shots with the mountain, but the weather had other plans for us. I could tell that Rubiya and Asad were a bit unnerved by the weather. But, I knew that stormy skies can produce the best images! We had a killer sunset, some high surf, and some sun showers! This all bought together their stormy Kauai engagement photography session!
