Laura and Nick’s Ann Arbor courthouse wedding was such a fun and laid-back day. It was a small gathering with just their parents, kids, and me there to celebrate. Being part of this day for one of my oldest friends and her partner was super special.
Courthouse Wedding in Ann Arbor
The wedding at the courthouse was short and sweet. I really liked the judge who performed the ceremony – she included a personal poem and, most importantly to me, allowed me to get close when photographing the ceremony!
At lunch after the courthouse wedding, I quickly found out the hard way that hot peppers can sometimes look like bell peppers. One bite later, my mouth was on fire, and Laura’s mom thought I was having an allergic reaction. It was a whole scene, and honestly, to this day, that’s what I associate with the lunch spot, Cafe Zola. (Still one of my favorite places, though!)
The day was really cold—like, freezing. But they didn’t let that ruin the vibe. After the quick ceremony at the courthouse, we headed to The Vault of Midnight, their favorite local comic book store. Fun fact: this is where they went on their first date! Watching them geek out over the comics and relive that memory was so cool.
Wedding Reception in Brighton
Later on, they had a reception in Brighton with the rest of their friends and family. The night was all about dancing, eating, and celebrating—everyone was having a blast. It snowed like crazy, but that didn’t stop us from stepping outside for some portraits. Sure, it was freezing, but the snow made everything look so pretty, and we all just rolled with it.
Laura and Nick’s wedding was simple, chill, and totally them. It was all about spending time with the people they care about and having a good time—the perfect way to kick off this new chapter in their lives.
