Kauai Waterfall Elopement | Carissa + Noah

Some wedding days feel carefully planned down to the minute. Others unfold naturally, with the kind of moments you could never recreate if you tried. Carissa and Noah’s Kauai waterfall elopement was definitely the second kind.

From the very first phone call, I knew these two were going to be fun. Noah told me he wanted waterfalls. Carissa wanted mountains. Luckily, Kauai is basically the perfect answer to both of those things. You can turn one corner and find dramatic cliffs over the ocean, then drive a little farther and end up standing beneath a hidden waterfall surrounded by jungle.

Honestly, their entire wedding day felt like the best version of what a wedding should be — relaxed, adventurous, emotional, and completely centered around actually experiencing the island together.

South Shore Kauai Elopement Photos with Ocean Cliffs

We started the day on the south side of Kauai, chasing cliffside views before heading north for the ceremony. The morning light was soft, the ocean was glowing, and somehow we practically had entire overlooks to ourselves.

At one point, we pulled over near a local fishing spot to grab some portraits near the cliffs. I’m pretty sure the fishermen nearby were trying to figure out why a bride and groom were standing near the edge of a cliff while I ran around with cameras. We definitely got a few looks.

Worth it.

One of my favorite things about photographing elopements on Kauai is how quickly the scenery changes. Within a single day, you can photograph dramatic coastline views, lush green mountains, waterfalls, beaches, and jungle landscapes without ever feeling rushed.

Carissa and Noah fully embraced that adventure side of the day. Nothing felt overly posed or stiff. They were laughing the entire day. taking in the views, and genuinely enjoying every second together instead of worrying about timelines or perfection.

Why a Kauai Waterfall Elopement is Pure Magic

If you’ve ever dreamed about getting married somewhere that feels completely untouched and wildly beautiful, a Kauai waterfall elopement is hard to beat.

The island has this way of making everything feel cinematic without even trying. The mountains are impossibly green, the clouds move constantly across the cliffs, and waterfalls seem to appear around every corner.

And somehow, despite Kauai being known for rain, we managed to avoid it almost entirely.

The only time it rained all day was while we were driving between locations. Every single time we got out of the car, the skies cleared. It honestly felt ridiculous how lucky we got.

The weather ended up being absolutely perfect — blue skies, scattered clouds, warm air, and that dreamy Hawaii light that makes everything glow. It was one of those rare Kauai days where every location somehow looked even better than expected.

Private Waterfall Wedding Ceremony in Kauai

Their ceremony took place beside a private waterfall officiated by Moe Alaiafune, and it honestly could not have been a more beautiful setting.

Hidden deep within the lush greenery, the waterfall creates an atmosphere that instantly makes everyone slow down and take it all in. The sound of the water echoed through the trees while their closest loved ones gathered nearby to witness their vows.

There’s something incredibly intimate about a waterfall ceremony in Kauai. Even with family present, it still feels deeply personal; like the rest of the world disappears for a little while.

Carissa and Noah exchanged vows surrounded by tropical greenery, flowing water, and the people who mattered most to them. No distractions. No stress. Just the two of them fully present in the moment.

And honestly, those are usually the weddings people remember forever.

Not because everything went perfectly according to plan, but because they were able actually to feel the day as it happened.

Hanalei Bay Wedding Photos and Beach Celebration

After the ceremony, we headed over to Hanalei Bay for cake, champagne, family photos, and some time to just celebrate together.

Hanalei is one of those places that somehow never disappoints no matter how many times you visit. The mountains surrounding the bay almost look painted, especially in the late afternoon light, and the beach itself feels calm and inviting in a way that’s hard to describe unless you’ve been there.

Then, completely unbeknownst to Carissa and Noah – Noah’s sister Katie decided to recreateJim and Pam’s wedding dance from The Office!

Barefoot.

In the sand.

Honestly, I had fun figuring out which character each person was pretending to be. If only we could have had some empty tissue boxes for someone to be Kevin and a walker for someone to be Andy!

Those spontaneous little moments always end up becoming some of my favorite memories from wedding days. They’re never planned, never polished, and somehow always end up feeling the most real.

Kauai North Shore Sunset Elopement Portraits

For sunset, we headed farther northwest along Kauai’s north shore, and somehow the day just kept getting prettier.

The sky exploded into soft pinks, golds, and orange tones while the mountains started glowing behind them. It was one of those sunsets that almost doesn’t look real in photos because the colors feel too perfect.

And then there were the dogs.

Random beach dogs kept wandering into photos throughout sunset portraits, and every single one of them seemed immediately loved with Carissa. At one point I genuinely started wondering if she had some secret Disney princess ability because animals just kept appearing around her.

The entire evening felt relaxed and effortless. No rushing. No pressure. Just exploring the beach together while the light slowly disappeared behind the ocean.

That’s one of the biggest reasons I love photographing Kauai elopements. The day doesn’t have to revolve around schedules and logistics every second. There’s room to breathe. Room to explore. Room for unexpected moments that end up becoming the best part of the story.

Na Pali Coast Wedding Adventure with Captain Andy’s

Most wedding days end after sunset portraits.

Not this one.

The next morning, Carissa and Noah invited me to join them on a sailing adventure with Captain Andy’s along the Na Pali Coast, and there was absolutely no chance I was saying no to that.

I packed both my main camera and my GoPro because the Na Pali Coast deserves every possible angle.

If you’ve never seen the Na Pali Coast in person, it’s difficult to explain just how massive and dramatic it feels. Towering green cliffs rise straight out of the ocean while waterfalls pour down the mountainsides into the sea. Every turn looks unreal. And DOLPHINS! So many dolphins. Again – Carissa with her Disney princess magic!

And somehow, Carissa and Noah still managed to make the day even more memorable.

At one point during the charter, they climbed into the ocean together and started eating their wedding cake while floating in the water. Absolutely iconic.

It perfectly summed up their entire wedding experience : adventurous, carefree, joyful, and completely true to who they are.

Planning a Kauai Waterfall Elopement

Carissa and Noah’s wedding weekend was such a perfect reminder that elopements don’t need to follow traditional rules to feel meaningful.

You can exchange vows beside a waterfall, eat cake on the beach, dance barefoot in Hanalei Bay, sail along the Na Pali Coast, and end up with a wedding experience that feels far more personal than anything confined to a ballroom timeline.

Elopements gives couples the freedom to create a wedding day that actually feels like them.

Whether you’re dreaming of waterfalls, mountains, beaches, cliffs, or ocean adventures, this island somehow manages to have all of it within reach.

And if your wedding day ends with eating cake in the ocean?

Even better.
